Savoy Theatre was originally built as a live theatre venue in 1900. It was originally known then as Schley’s Music Hall. Not immediately successful, the theatre was renamed the Savoy Theatre on 8 October 1900. The venue was leased to Walter Rosenberg (later Walter Reade) in 1910, who converted it into a motion picture theatre. The theatre operated as such until closing in 1933.
